HSC Course

Year 11 and 12

To help Year 11 and 12 students prepare for the HSC Trials and actual HSC exam, Omega Institute has developed a special HSC Tuition course to cater to the diverse needs of our students. Our experienced teachers are more than happy to answer all of your questions so that you are thoroughly prepared and feel confident on the day of your exam.

REGULAR COURSE

Year 7 to 10

The High School Regular Course is the program that is offered to all students from Year 7 through to Year 10. These courses continue throughout the year (regardless of school holidays) and are designed to further develop and expand students’ knowledge and understanding of fundamentals in all subject areas.

The subjects offered to Year 7 - 10 students are:

The Regular Course classes run for an hour each. It is important to monitor your child’s progress so that you can evaluate their strengths and weaknesses.

MES Test

Omega Institute MES Test has been developed to allow students to revise the topics covered each term (every 10 weeks). The exams are held under strict conditions in order to build student’s confidence in exam situations. The subjects covered in Omega Institute MES Test are: Maths, English and Science, hence the name MES. Students are given a computerised multiple choice answer sheet, to record their answers. Their results are then fed into a scanner that processes the data and compares their results to the students in all of Omega Institute centres in Australia.

Free Revision Tutorials

He main purpose of Free Revision Tutorial Class is to explain the solutions, methods and the techniques of the problem to students more thoroughly. The revision class will be based on the questions that were completed and already covered in the previous week. This will be an essential time for students to make sure that all concepts have been completely understood. Free Revision Tutorial Class is NOT just a class for students to do their tuition homework. Free Revision Tutorial class provides HELP with works covered in PREVIOUS weeks. Free Revision Tutorial Classes are open to all current Omega Institute students enrolled in the regular course from Year 3 through to Year 10. Advanced Reading and Writing course

Year 7 ~ 10

High school students today need to understand more than just the basic written word. Omega Institute Advanced Reading and Writing course helps students to understand implied meanings, purpose, style, structure and to develop sound and critical judgements of a variety of text types. Most importantly, it helps students to write EFFECTIVELY. The Advanced Reading and Writing Course supplements the Regular English Course by encouraging students to further develop expression, style and the mechanics of reading and writing. Improving your child’s English skills will have a beneficial affect on their performance in other subject areas as well as their communication skills and consequently their level of confidence.

This course encourages students to:

  • Write in various text types
  • Develop an understanding of the reading and writing processes
  • Develop questioning skills
  • Extend personal knowledge
  • Examine structure and organisation of text/stimulus material
  • Develop expression, style and mechanics in reading and writing
  • Improve reading skills
  • Extend writing skills
  • Understand concepts of purpose, audience and style
  • Analyse and interpret content

Holiday Course

Year 7 to 12

Four times a year, Omega Institute Holiday Courses are held for 1 – 2 weeks. Holiday Course is a great opportunity for students to make the most of their school holidays. By getting a head-start in their studies, students feel more confident and motivated to achieve excellent results.

The Holiday Courses are generally held during the following times:

  • Summer Holiday Course: Early January
  • Autumn Holiday Course: Mid April
  • Winter Holiday Course: Early July
  • Spring Holiday Course: Late September

Year 7 to 10:

The subjects covered include: Maths, Essay Writing and Science.

Year 11 to 12:

The subjects covered include: Maths 2 Unit, Maths Ext.1, English, Physics, Chemistry and Economics.

Primary School Courses (NSW)

Regular Course

Kinder to Year 6

The Primary Regular Course is the program that is offered to all students from Kindergarten through to Year 6. These courses continue throughout the year (regardless of school holidays) and are designed to further develop and expand students’ knowledge and understanding of fundamentals in all subject areas.

The subjects offered to primary students doing the Regular Course are :

English:

develops a student’s reading comprehension skills, vocabulary and grammar skills which also play an important role in many other subjects

Mathematics:

starting from basics, this course works up to challenging levels of problem-solving

Thinking Skills:

starting from basics, this course works up to challenging levels of problem-solving

Writing Practice:

an essential part of studying the English language, which gives a student confidence in his/her writing and general communication skills

The Regular Course classes run for an hour each.

M.E.T.S. Test

It is important for the parents to monitor student’s progress and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. For this reason, Omega Institute M.E.T.S. Test has been developed to allow students to revise the topics covered during a 12 ~ 13 week period. The exams are held under strict conditions in order to build students’ confidence in exam situations. The subjects covered in the Omega Institute M.E.T.S. Test are : Maths, English and Thinking Skills. Students are given a computerised multiple choice answer sheet (OMR answer sheets), to indicate their answers. The answer sheets are then fed into a OMR scanner that processes the data and compares their results to the students in all of Omega Institute centres in Australia.

Free Revision Tutorials

NSW Selective High School Placement Test Preparation Trial Test course

Year 5 to 6 Selective Reading & Mathematical Reasoning Trial Test Course (SRM)

Omega Institute SRM (Selective Reading & Mathematical Reasoning) course is the NSW Selective High School Placement Test preparation course offering 30 + 35 = 65 questions each week for Reading and Mathematical Reasoning tests.

Exclusive to Omega Institute, this NSW Selective High School Placement Test preparation tuition / coaching course gives students the advantage of gaining practical experiences and knowledge necessary to excel in the actual test. Our course is specifically designed in the following ways:

  • Foster practical test experience with over 3,000 unique English Reading & Mathematical Reasoning practice test questions similar to the actual test questions.
  • The test is done every week and the test report will be given to an individual student showing how he/she will perform in the actual test.
  • Every question will be explained in detail by our experienced teachers.

For the 2025 Selective High School placement test, SRM (Selective Reading & Mathematical Reasoning) trial test course will start on 20th May 2024 and will end on 26th April 2025 (45 weeks course). Students can join at any time during the 45 week course period and the course fee can be adjusted accordingly. Minimum enrolment is 10 weeks.

NSW Selective High School Placement Test Preparation Trial Test course

Year 5 to 6 Thinking Skills Trial Test Course (STS - Selective Thinking Skills)

Doing well in Thinking Skills is vital to success as this part alone makes up 50% of the total mark in the actual Selective Schools Placement Test. Thinking Skills is difficult to study for since the knowledge and skills needed span across a wide genre of subjects. At Omega Institute, we have expertise work materials and experienced teachers to successfully aid students in this area.

Designed specifically to meet the need of students, our Selective Thinking Skills course:

  • Fosters practical test experience with over 1,800 unique Thinking Skills practice test questions.
  • Teaches students interpretation and problem solving skills.
  • Develops analytical, logical and spatial reasoning skills.
  • Broadens general knowledge of differing areas.
For the 2025 Selective High School placement test, STS (Selective Thinking Skills) trial test course will start on 20th May 2024 and will end on 26th April 2025 (45 weeks course). NSW Selective High School Placement Test Preparation Trial Test course

Year 5 to 6 English Writing Trial Test Course (SWS - Selective Writing Skills)

Selective Writing Skills course is an important extension course to the Selective Reading and Mathematical Reasoning trial test course (SRM) and Selective Thinking Skills (STS) Course. The course runs for 1.5 hours every week for a period of 50 weeks in total.
The Advanced Reading and Writing Course supplements the Regular English Course by encouraging students to further develop expression, style and the mechanics of reading and writing. Improving English writing skills will have a beneficial affect on student’s performance in other subject areas as well as their communication skills and consequently their level of confidence.

Why is this course so important?

This Selective English Writing Skills (SWS) helps students to develop an ADVANCED level of writing skills. This course prepares students for success in the NSW Selective High School Placement Test and the Private School Scholarship Exams. It is important to start early as the process of developing good writing skills takes LOTS and LOTS of PRACTISE!

Year 4 Opportunity Class preparation trial test course

Year 3 to 4

General Information

Opportunity Classes located in NSW public primary schools cater for academically gifted Year 5 and Year 6 students with high potential. These classes help students learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level.
Omega Institute Opportunity Class test preparation course allows students to prepare for the Opportunity Class placement test (the entrance exam making admission decision for the Opportunity Class) by practising and solving more than 3,000 Reading, Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills questions. Each week students will complete three test papers comprising of Reading, Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills questions. Omega Institute Opportunity Placement test trial tests are produced using exactly the same format as the real Opportunity Class Test
Students will sit online trial tests using the computer each week at Omega Institute centres and receive a computerised test report in the following week that gives a close indication of the student’s performance which can be tracked via our online portal. Detailed explanation to the test questions will be provided to students at the completion of the test and students can re-attempt test questions which they have answered incorrectly using Omega Institute eStudy revision system.

How long?

Reading test: 25 questions, 30 minutes Mathematical Reasoning test: 35 questions, 40 minutes Thinking Skills test: 30 questions, 30 minutes

Special Reading and Writing course

Year 2 to 6

The Special Reading & Writing supplements the Regular English Course by encouraging students to further develop expression, style and the mechanics of reading and writing.
